Surprisingly, it took me a while to find my favorite workout clothes and more importantly, the best fitting ones.
You would think that living in a world with Lulu Lemons and Nike’s on every corner would make life easy, but with all the options it actually makes it harder to find an affordable option in the right style and size. I opt for low-cost workout clothes mostly because a) I wear them everyday and have to buy a lot of them and b) I sweat A LOT so after a while I have to replace them because no matter how many times I wash them, they still smell like sweat (yummy, I know).
With that in mind, my workout tops and sports bras I buy from the cheapest place I know: Forever 21. Surprisingly, their sports bras are actually really good quality and range from $7.99 to about $18.00 max. They have a range of support options and styles that you see at Lulu Lemon or other popular places, but at a more reasonable price.
Their shirts are also cheap, but their quality isn’t as durable. I try to stick with their basic cotton tanks, which last longer than the other fabrics. Try this Braided Tank.
When it comes to active leggings, those are also a pricey little number when you like to have at least seven pairs (guilty). I struggle to find some that aren’t too long, because apparently every medium sized woman is also 6 feet tall these days. Capri leggings are my favorite and I also prefer them to be made of cotton because it’s the most comfortable for me. The best ones that I’ve found so far are the Tek Gear brand from Kohl’s. Kohl’s always has sales, so I usually get them for 30-50% off their standard price, with a lot of colors and patterns to choose from. Take a look at the selection here.
On chilly days, my favorite ways to stay warm on my walk to the gym is the Athleta jacket pictured above. It’s warm fleece on the inside but a durable, slick material on the outside. The cut also flares outward slightly and creates a slim, hourglass look. It’s worth the investment and will be a great addition to your workout wardrobe.
Athleta also makes the best headbands, mostly because the no-slip-grip actually works. Unlike other brands, they don’t slide off your head and are easy to throw in the wash when you’re done. Highly recommend!
